Warren Ellis has started a weekly exercise on his forum in which he asks artists to remake/remodel characters he offers up. This week's character was SHERLOCK HOLMES. I went the steampunk route and imagined an older Holmes who's body was ravaged by years of heroin use. British authorities, in a last ditch effort to save his brilliant mind, sever his head and connect it to a mechanical body to keep Holmes alive and around to help them solve the most perplexing crimes in Victorian England.

I kind of went a bit bizarre with the mechanical body.. but that was the fun of the exercise.

Heh.

And then he'll get addicted to motor oil in this new body. >_<

Wow, that's a nice machine Holmes has there. What's the gas mileage on that thing? Does he use a "seven-per-cent solution" of diesel in the engine?

Now THERE'S something you don't see every day. Interesting take on Holmes, hah! Steampunk is always interesting. Rocket-powered detectoring.

I like the idea, and your artwork is flawless as usual.
However, I don't like the design of the body. It's way too far removed from the character (and I know that was part of the exercise, but you took it too far).
Not only it is far removed, but the bits of cliche in the body that relate to the character seem oddly unnecesary and not enough to help unify the design. Also them protruding from an impossible small cavity make me think of the juvenile concept of Dr. Gadget.
You could have drawn the head just about on top of any mech design and obtained equal results.

But I still love you! ;-D
