I did this piece as a Christmas present for Mark Waid several years back. I started working on coloring it a while ago... but never really finished it. Hopefully I'll finishe the rocks one day when I've got more time.
This is wonderful. This really stays true to the spirit of the property as it was originally conceived. It's too bad we've lost our appreciation (collectively) for the simpler palette and tonal range you're using here.
I really think that the more traditional "stark" palette has great symbolical value... combined with less rendered illustration techniques-- it's more pleasing to the eye than the muddy swarm of muted tones in a lot of comics out there.
